Nestled in a small community on Lake Minntetonka, you'll discover a store over a century old. Since 1895, The Cottagewood General Store has served its neighbors in many capacities, ranging from dry goods and gasoline to fine dining, catering, homemade sweets, and family fun.

The building was originally opened as a small grocery store by Ralph and Stella Chapman. Over the years, the store has been owned and operated by many differnt individuals, each with their own vision of serving the community.

In 1995, the store was closed and the building put up for sale. With a strong desire to maintain what had become a neighborhood gathering place, a few concerned citizens banded together to discuss the possibility of the community buying the store. They came up with a plan and arranged an emergency meeting. The neighborhood response was overwhelming! The store was bursting at the seams on that cold February night. Everyone wanted to know what they could do to help. The meeting was a success, as over 135 neighbors pitched in to save the store, thereby preserving both their way of life and a piece of history.

Welcome to The Cottagewood General Store. This store embodies and embraces a time gone-by. The clock seems to move just a bit more slowly as friends and neighbors stop by. We invite you to sit back with a cup of coffee and soak in that nostalgic feeling.

Thanks for visiting us. We hope to see you again soon.
